Commuting together from Metrotown, the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Burnaby/New West newcomer volunteer team arrived in joyful spirits at the Lumberman’s Arch in Stanley Park. The reason for their giddiness: to supportstaff at the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation in one of its biggest fundraisers of the year, Walk With the Dragon (WWTD)! The fundraiser proceeds go towards under and un-funded social programs benefiting vulnerable populations that S.U.C.C.E.S.S. serves. WWTD featured multicultural performances, a dragon-led fundraising walk with participation from a variety of community groups, as well as fun activities hosted by event sponsors. Volunteers helped to build a great atmosphere for event-goers by maintaining site cleanliness, facilitating crowd flow, as well as supporting staff stationed at concessions and activity tables. Feeling tired but accomplished, the newcomer volunteers enthusiastically stayed on site to take down and to load miscellaneous event equipment. True to the spirit of Walk With the Dragon, the cycle of giving continues with the passionate participation of community members and partners, staff and volunteers alike.
