On November 28, 2023, under the cold and clear sky, a group of 11 eager newcomers to Canada embarked on an enlightening journey through the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) detachment serving Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Village of Anmore, and Village of Belcarra.
The tour commenced in a spacious conference room, where two dedicated RCMP officers shared their personal journeys to becoming law enforcement professionals. One officer, an immigrant from China, bridged language barriers by speaking fluent Mandarin and English, fostering an inclusive atmosphere without the need for translation. The officers recounted their experiences, dispelling misconceptions about their work and emphasizing the collaborative nature of policing. The highlight of the tour was the visit to the detachment itself. Clients explored civilian workspaces, the lunchroom, and the parking area housing the iconic RCMP police cars.
As a result of this activity, clients not only learned about law enforcement but also discovered the essence of Canadian values through the commitment of these dedicated individuals.
