Tri-Cities & Ridge Meadows

The Tri-Cities is composed of the cities of Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, and Port Moody, and the villages of Anmoore and Belcarra. Coquitlam is the sixth-largest city in the province, with a population of 148,625 in 2021. Tri-Cities is one of the fastest growing areas in Metro Vancouver and has attracted many new families marking 41% of the population in Tri-Cities are immigrants in 2021. With the completion of the Evergreen Extension of the Millennium Line, the region has well developed public transportation system served by Skytrain. Maillardville in Tri-Cities is home to the province's oldest francophone community. 
 
Neighboring area and services offered by Tri-Cities region is  Ridge Meadow. It is located between the Fraser River and the Golden Ears Mountains. The cities of Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows make up the region. With more families moving into the area,  There was 36% increase in recent immigrants population in the recent census.  Maple Ridge has the most affordable residential real estate in Metro Vancouver and is experiencing unprecedented growth.

Services Offered in Tri-Cities & Ridge Meadows

Tri-Cities & Ridge Meadows provides BC Newcomer Services Program (BCNSP) and BC Services and Assistance for Humanitarian and Vulnerable Newcomers Program (BC Safe Haven). 

BCNSP

The BC Newcomer Services Program (BCNSP) provides direct settlement services to support the social and economic integration of newcomers who are not eligible to receive immigrant support services under federally funded programs.
 
Eligible clients include:

  • Temporary workers with a valid work permit
  • International post-secondary students (if services are not offered at their educational institution)
  • Provincial Nominees awaiting a decision on their application for permanent residence
  • Naturalized Canadian citizens
  • CUAET Visa Holders 
  • Some refugee claimants (More support is available through the BC Safe Haven program)

The types of services include:

  • One-on-one information, orientation and referrals
  • Settlement and labour market services
  • Workshops and support groups
  • Informal and formal English language training

BC Safe Haven

The BC Services and Assistance for Humanitarian and Vulnerable Newcomers (BC Safe Haven) Program provides specialized settlement supports for Refugee Claimants, Asylum Seekers and Refugees in the form of wraparound services to support the social and economic integration of clients who are not eligible to receive services under federal settlement programs. 
Eligible clients include:

  • Refugee Claimants
  • Asylum Seekers
  • CUAET Visa Holders
  • Refugees (including Protected Persons and Resettled Refugees)

The types of services include:

  • One-on-one settlement information, orientation and referrals
  • Assistance in navigation of claim submission and immigration processes
  • Support with access to food and housing
  • Workshops and support groups
  • Informal and formal English language training
