On June 14, 2024, the Tri-Cities SUCCESS Service Centre brought the great outdoors inside—without the mosquitoes! Led by Parks Canada’s Learn-to-Camp team, this workshop equipped newcomers with the skills they need to camp like pros, while staying safe from curious bears, cougars, coyotes, and wolves. With Farsi interpretation available, participants eagerly soaked up lessons on trip planning and wildlife safety, sparking plenty of "aha" moments and excited conversations.

Despite being held indoors, the workshop buzzed with the spirit of adventure. Attendees left with wildlife safety tools, practical tips, and the cherry on top: information about free park admissions for newcomers in Canada. Thanks to Parks Canada staff, everyone walked out ready to swap their four walls for forest trails and to experience Canada’s natural beauty firsthand.

But this workshop was more than just a crash course in camping—it was about building connections. Through shared laughs, stories, and plans for future camping trips, participants left feeling closer to one another and more at home in their new environment. Who knew that a step toward the wild could begin so close to home?
