On October 24, our staff and newcomer clients hopped on a special bus to begin an exciting learning journey with TransLink. The day kicked off with an introduction to TransLink’s services, designed to help everyone feel more confident navigating the public transit system. Our clients were introduced to the Compass Card system, where they learned how to “tap in” and “tap out” when traveling. They also discovered how to Identify priority seating for those who need it most; locate bus stop numbers and read information displays for route details; and understand important safety features like emergency phones and silent alarms on the SkyTrain. A hands-on demonstration showed them how to board buses, including how to use the lift or ramp for accessibility. The session also covered how to add funds to Compass Cards at vending machines and how to confidently navigate the SkyTrain system.
Throughout the trip, participants enjoyed engaging conversations and interactive learning, making the session both educational and fun. By the end of the journey, everyone left with new skills and a boost in confidence to use public transit independently.
