Join us in discovering community resources in Richmond! On November 1, 2024, a group of 19 newcomers participated in an exciting bus tour to explore Richmond Olympic Oval and Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site.
At the Oval, the participants were immersed in a vibrant atmosphere and surrounded by a great variety of facilities such as the fitness center, basketball courts and Olympic size ice rinks. They discovered the features of the Oval during the tour led by city staff and learned about the benefits of sports at the Richmond Olympic Experience Museum.
The group later visited the Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site, the original location for early canning, fishing and boatbuilding operations. The participants explored buildings dating back to 1885 and learned about the stories of early residents and workers at the Britannia Cannery and Britannia Shipyards.
The tour was successful. The participants expressed a high level of satisfaction, and some expressed interest in becoming members of the Richmond Olympic Oval. One participant commented: “That’s amazing, I have never been so close to the Olympics! I’m so proud to be here, living in Richmond, and I will come back to be a member”.
