The Central Branch of the Vancouver Public Library is one of Downtown’s most iconic landmarks. Not only is it a stunning building shaped like a coliseum, but it also serves as a vibrant, resource-rich hub where newcomers can access a wealth of support and services.
For the past two years, ISIP Vancouver has been inviting newcomers on guided tours of the library. Every time the staff of the Skilled Immigrant InfoCentre goes above and beyond in assisting our clients. They don’t just provide an overview of the library and its resources; they also offer valuable advice on job hunting and exploring new career paths. We’ve never been able to finish the tour within the scheduled time because, seeing how knowledgeable the speakers are, our clients ask countless questions — questions that the Skilled Immigrant InfoCentre team enthusiastically answers.
Did you know that you can borrow musical instruments from the library? Or rent a studio for recording or editing a professional-quality video? Or borrow a book in Tofino and return it in Vancouver without any additional fees? Join our next Library Tour — you’ll learn all about the incredible resources available in libraries across Metro Vancouver!
The highlight of every tour is the visit to the rooftop, where participants can enjoy a breathtaking view of Downtown and make connections with each other. Last stop – signing up for library cards, so our newcomers can start accessing all the library’s services right away.
I’m so glad that our city has such an incredible place, and I’m deeply grateful to the Skilled Immigrant Info Centre for their wonderful collaboration with ISIP Vancouver!
