On June 14, 2024, newcomer clients from the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Tri-Cities Immigrant Settlement and Integration Program participated in the 92nd ScotFest BC (Highland Games) at Coquitlam Town Centre Park. Organized as part of the “We Volunteer Here” initiative, this event provided participants their first opportunity to engage in volunteer work while connecting with the community. Despite a rainy morning, the weather cleared up by the afternoon, creating a lively atmosphere as volunteers set up tables, chairs, and fencing, contributing to the seamless operation of this exciting cultural event.

Participants enjoyed the rich traditions of Scottish culture, including bagpipes, dancing, and games, which made the event both meaningful and fun. For many newcomers, the experience was transformative, introducing them to local traditions and helping them forge new friendships, while some discovered they lived near each other, deepening their sense of belonging.

The feedback was glowing, with participants eager for future events. ScotFest BC showcased how volunteering can foster connection, cultural exchange, and a sense of belonging, creating unforgettable experiences for all involved. With initiatives like this, the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. team continues to create fun, meaningful ways for newcomers to embrace Canadian life and make unforgettable memories.
