On November 14, 2024, newcomer clients from the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Tri-Cities service center teamed up with the City of Coquitlam’s Park Spark program to transform Town Centre Park into a dazzling holiday wonderland for the annual Lights at Lafarge display. Armed with lights and holiday cheer, 24 enthusiastic volunteers decorated tree branches, adding their sparkle to Metro Vancouver’s largest free outdoor light show. It wasn’t just about the lights—it was about spreading joy and fostering a sense of community pride.
This year’s group brought vibrant energy to the event! For newcomers, it was a chance to connect to their new home, and for longtime locals, it was a fun way to make memories while giving back. As they strung lights, participants shared family traditions tied to the display, creating a sense of camaraderie. Over the past four years, a senior Chinese couple has consistently volunteered for this event and various activities with S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Through their service, they found not only a way to give back but also a sense of fulfillment and pride that enriched their lives. Their dedication has inspired others in the community. Not even unpredictable weather could dim the volunteers’ spirits—just another testament to their enthusiasm and holiday zest.
With plans to continue supporting the Lights at Lafarge and other seasonal activities like spring gardening, the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. team is committed to keeping the fun alive. These events not only brighten up the neighborhood but also bring people together in the most meaningful and festive ways, one lightbulb at a time.
