It was another colorful and fun-filled event last June 10 at the City Hall Grounds of the City of Richmond. “FUNtastic Canada 150” was a whole-day event in Richmond highlighted by the Philippine Flag Raising Festivities in the morning and a sports and dance fest in the afternoon initiated by the Multicultural Helping House Society. As part of the organizing committee, SUCCESS Richmond took the initiative to mobilize volunteers to prepare and set up the venue as well as the take-down. Aside from setting tables, chairs, tents, and the stage and running the SUCCESS community table, the event was also a powerful opportunity for volunteers to learn about local cultures, meet community circles and experience a multicultural celebration. Volunteers joined the opening parade proudly wearing SUCCESS T-shirts. Inspiring messages from local community leaders, cultural presentations and performances from diverse ethnic communities in Richmond added to the enjoyment. Originally conceived mainly as a Philippine-focused festivity, it has grown with SUCCESS' involvement of diverse newcomers, encouraging the involvement of volunteers from many cultures to join in the celebrations. What a great way to celebrate cultural diversity!
