March's theme for LINC classes is Community so a field trip to the Richmond Brighouse Library for a Library Champions information session was fitting. On March 9th, 2018, April Toh's LINC 6 newcomers learned how this volunteer program for new immigrants could create countless win-win learning opportunities and possibilities for the whole community. After the presentation, many of the LINC 6 students eagerly filled in application forms. Once completed, the real action began! Ms. Helene Rasmuss, a key Library Champions facilitator, conducted one-on-one interviews with each applicant. And with Helene's kind permission, April turned this authentic task into a Speaking assessment, sitting in for all the interviews and was amazed at how well her students could make small talk, clarify, paraphrase, explain, expand, provide specific examples and so much more. Here are a couple of photos showing Helene interviewing Sherry, one of the LINC 6 students and all was great! Great questions! Great responses! Great "Real-World" task!
