The Burnaby/New Westminster newcomer volunteer team is back again this year, walking with the dragon in Stanley Park – this time with new faces and just as many smiles.

As newcomers, our team of volunteers experienced the yearly tradition of “Walk with the Dragon.” This event is hosted by the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation, and is supported yearly by sponsors and volunteers in the community (including our group!). As is its yearly tradition, the event delighted participants with multicultural performances, a dragon-led fundraising walk with participation from a variety of community groups, as well as interactive activities hosted by event sponsors. Our team this year was stationed at the Kids Zone. Volunteers made sure that the station was well maintained while helping families and children attending the event have a fun and safe experience. Our team was part of a larger volunteer effort that made “Walk with the Dragon” a very fun and successful event. All event proceeds raised will go towards underfunded social programs benefiting vulnerable populations delivered by S.U.C.C.E.S.S.

Here’s what our volunteers had this to say about their experience:

It was very nice experience to volunteer at the Walk with the Dragon. It was hot; but I felt good to contribute to the event and got a green T-shirt. Thank You. - Jerome

I made a few friends and had an opportunity to practice English while learning the Canadian culture. I became more confident through the volunteering. - Kathy
