On July 30, 2018, the Surrey Food Bank collaborated with SUCCESS Surrey ISIP’s “We Volunteer Here” Program by giving newcomer youth an opportunity to experience their day-to-day operations and engage the participating youth through serving food alongside other volunteers to individuals accessing their services. Staff at the Surrey Food Bank were very accommodating and provided the youth with a hands-on tutorial, as well as an explanation of the process a client goes through when accessing the food bank. Youth assisted in supporting the various stations a client passes by in queue in order to get different food items, ranging from canned food to snacks and bakery items. The youth stated that they enjoyed giving back and would be interested in doing this again. As one youth said; “It was great to help people, how to give food to people who need food.”, and another commented: “It was nice to meet new people with different backgrounds.”
