Burnaby Pride Street Party is a collaborative community initiative, involving a number of community agencies in Burnaby that support LGBTQ2S+ individuals through a variety of programs and services. This year, it took place at Jubilee Ave on August 10, 2019! Our group of volunteers helped with booth set up and information sharing. All of them had a remarkable time supporting the event as they learned more about this community initiative.

Gloria, one of the morning volunteers, shared her volunteer story, “I came to Canada as an international student. When I was at school, I volunteered for some school events. After graduation, I was busy with work and didn’t have any chance to volunteer again. I just moved here from Toronto one month ago. I’m excited about all the differences from Toronto and willing to know more about my community. That’s why I chose Burnaby Pride as my first volunteer event after I moved here. I feel pretty happy to contribute more to my community and learn more about where I live.”

Another volunteer Mengmeng told me she had a fantastic day at Burnaby Pride. She also shared her story, “This is my first volunteer experience in Canada! I’m so happy that I can give a hand when people need help. I can’t believe I just met Burnaby’s mayor and took a selfie with him. I also saw a lot of wonderful people and performers. This has made my day. I will go to volunteer again next year!”
