SWIS and SUCCESS has had an amazing collaborative partnership for the past 7-8 years in which we have organized events together, created an effective referral system when it pertains to client needs and have worked diligently to maintain a close vital relationship in the community.
The benefits of working with newcomers is the satisfaction of helping clients accomplish their dreams and goals in a transition period. They bring culture and experiences from around the world to my personal and professional life. I have made amazing newcomer friends and relationships.
I truly believe newcomers can benefit from SWIS to help make their transitions in the school systems as seamless as possible. We assess and refer families within the schools and advocate on their behalf. We help bridge the gap between home and school, parents & administration, students & teachers. We also help to create a safe and welcoming environment by peer matching students to help them feel more comfortable in a new environment.
To inspire other organizations to work with newcomer programs like S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Immigrant Settlement & Integration Program, I would advise other organizations to keep an open mind and open heart. I believe that newcomers bring more to our organizations than meets the eye and to be aware of the knowledge and experience they bring that can help your organization.
