My name is Theresa Chan.

I came from Hong Kong and have lived in Canada for 22 years.

Firstly, I would like to thank SUCCESS for providing me with this opportunity to share my volunteering experience with all of you.

Since my volunteering at SUCCESS as a Front Desk Receptionist for the past 15 years, not only I have gained tremendous knowledge, but also I have rebuilt self-confidence. In turn, it enriched my life and helps me stay healthy.

Whenever I have time, I also participate in other volunteering programs to increase my awareness of the community service.

After my retirement, I joined the Chinese Help Lines, one of the programs of S.U.C.C.E.S.S. providing free emotional and informational support over the telephone for the Chinese speaking Canadians who are facing difficulties with loneliness, family relationship and mental health issues etc. I committed my time listening to the callers with emotional support and provided them with resources where they can get help. All these years of volunteering, my training and experience allow me to share this valuable knowledge to those in need. It will, in turn, beautify their life.

I believe volunteering provides community service so that resources can be spent on other local improvements to strengthen our community.

One candle makes a tiny light, but if we put our efforts together, our community will be brighter and better.
